Minnesota Speach Draft

Hello everyone!
During I was in Minnesota, I went to shopping some times with my host family and class activity. Then I found interesting points, so I’all show it on this presentation. Especially I focus on “supermarket”.
I focus these three big contents.

First, when I went to supermarket in U.S., I surprised at number of merchandise. Minnesota’s supermarkets which locates suburb were very big building. It is huge and high ceiling, so they have much space, height and staffs.

American supermarkets have many kinds of merchandise, for example apples, but it is not couple of  kinds. In American supermarket, I saw many kinds of apples and I saw Fuji apple, it is Japanese kind one. And almost supermarkets have so many kinds of  cheese, cereal and ice cream and so on. For example cereal, there are including sugar cereal, non-sugar one, including dried fruit one, calorie off one and so on. I think  many choices satisfy people’s needs. Some people like sweet cereal, some people like healthy cereal, some people like strange colored cereal. Look this picture! In this picture, I found 47 kinds of cereals!
Moreover some American merchandises are big size, and I was so surprise. For example, American ice cream’s vessel is such a bucket! American don’t go grocery store more often than Japanese. America has  bulk buying culture, so they buy many merchandises in a shopping. While Japanese think flashiness is more important. These gallon of milk express it notably.

And second, I noticed about stores and the location. America has many kinds of store. I found huge supermarket, for example Costco, Global supermarket which has worldwide grocery store, and very low price or high-grade store. I expected two reasons why America has many kinds of supermarket. First, America is composed with many races, so global supermarket is necessary, and second, America is supermarket’s birthplace.

In Minnesota, TARGET is the most popular supermarket; it has some kinds of shop, for example TARGET, Super TARGET, Hyper TARGET and like that. Normal TARGET is just grocery shop but Super TARGET does not have only food but clothes, furniture and more items. It was so interesting. So every shop’s item and the variety change depending of shop level.

Type of suburb supermarkets has huge land and park, and almost it is one floor building, while type of city supermarket doesn’t have much park and small.I lived in Cottage Grove where is far from Minneapolis, so I always went to suburb type supermarket. America is car society, so big park is necessary.

Third, I noticed about the difference of way of sell. In Japan, usually almost merchandise is packed in container made of Styrofoam or plastic sheet like this , but in U.S.,  selling by measure is main channel, so you can buy from so little amount to huge amount, if you want. You can choose the amount. I think it is very useful. Vegetable and fruit were put on selling space without plastic sheet, I think this is good for environment. This way avoids over packaging.

I also noticed about shopping cart. American shopping cart is considerably bigger than Japanese one. It is huge, so children can get inside easily. Not only that, there were many kinds of shopping carts. For example huge shopping cart, smaller cart, child carts, in addition electric shopping cart! Mainly electric cart  is used by disabled people or elderly people. Electric shopping cart has motor and looks like motor bike, and the front has basket. Then user can move and choose by them. This type of shopping cart is not so rare in U.S..
And I found this machine in some supermarket. This is price scanner, and on back of this machine has phone, it can call stuff.

Essay 2-03a: My history about learning English

I have learned some languages for long time. I studied English and Spanish. Learning other language is difficult for me, but communication with foreign people is exciting.

First, I learned English when I was a kinder garden student. I had lived in Singapore for about 4 years. I played with native speakers or Chinese English speakers. I spoke child English. My mother said that your pronounce was so good and you're good at listening ability. Unfortunately I don't remember more memories and forgot how I spoke in my childhood. However I got familiar with English very much.

Second, I came back Japan, I entered elementary school. We had English class every two weeks. ELT came class, we sing some easy song and learned about season, months, week, greeting and like that. A ELT teacher was my father's friend, so I joined his son's birthday party some times. I enjoyed western style party and culture.

Third, when I was junior high school student, I hate English! It is because I didn't like my English teacher. My teacher was angry at other students soon, so I hate the class. So English was my weakest subject. I had gone cram school and other subjects became better, but I couldn't take a fancy only English. However my listening ability was good as ever. I wanted to be better my English, but I didn't do much effort. I regret this time still now. If I did all I can, I succeeded university entrance exam.

Fourth, in high school, I wasn't good at English still this time. So I thought that I have an aptitude for science course and I pursued science course since second grade of high school. However in the end of second grade, I thought my future dream and I wanted to be a flight attendant. You know, English is necessary for flight attendant. I had to study English so hard, even if I don't want to study English. I alter the course of my study life. I pushed me into English study world.

Fortunately I have some good friends, so I studied very hard with her every day. My vocabulary used-up, because I hold it every time. For example when I have lunch, move next class room, take a bus, wait for turn traffic signal and go to bed, anyway I studied about 1500 vocabularies whenever I could. Then while cleaning time, I and friends gave some quizzes of vocabulary each other. I think learning with friends is so effective for me and I knew vocabulary is important on study English.

Last, I'm studying English KGU. I chose Spanish for second language. Spanish is interesting subject. I like Spanish pronunciation. I communicate foreign exchange students at English lounge and I made friend. Still I chat with her on Facebook. I hated English study on desk, but through directly communication I became get fancy English, more over other language. Then blogging is so hard, but I find new expression on this blog. I want to study Spanish and English harder.

Essay 2-01a: Eimi's Favorite Place

      I'll show you my favorite places. My favorite places are my room and KGU, airport, Jieitai Avenue, over seas and Kumamoto downtown. Especially Kumamoto downtown has many good spots, for example Shimotori, Kamitori, around the Shirakawa river and Kumamoto castle.

First, I like my room. Because I can feel the most comfortable atmosphere. My room is normal size and a little messy. My room has a desk and a bed and closet and two shelves. Entering my room, I can smell my perfume's smell. My room is like just a closet! I want new shelf. In my room is only my space, so I like it.

Second, I like Kumamoto Gakuen University, off course!  Because I can meet many friends and eat lunch with them. Especially we often use bakery in the noon dulling the lunch time. Bakery is very popular, so lunch time is during a peak. When we can't get sheet, we go to upper level classroom. Building 14 has Mac PC, so I like here. In Autumn, row of gingo trees are very beautiful!

Third, Jieitai avenue is near of my high school. Here's row of cherry blossom trees are very famous. In spring, here is so wonderful! It is not only noon but also night cherry blossom is so nice. Every year the cherry blossom festival is held in here.

I love airplane, so I like airport very much. I've ever been to some airports and I like Japanese airport, because Japanese airport is very clean. Especially I like Fukuoka airport and Haneda airport. Haneda airport was made new landing field. Fukuoka airport is good location.

Next favorite is over seas. I've ever been to Singapore, Australia, Indonesia and U.S. Last July and August I went to Minnesota. I found many good places! Performable Bethel University, many lakes, Mall of America, Target (Supermarket), Cottage grove adnd Minneapolis. Especially I was surprised at scale of Bethel. Every building is big and super. My favorite places were cafeteria and our class room.

Last, Kumamoto downtown is my favorite too. Shimotori and Kamitori have many shops. I often go to PARCO and New-s. Shirakawa river is a best-kept secret, because there is the best for taking a walk. Also around Kumamoto castle is great. I'm proud of it.

Anyway these all places are necessary for me. Every places has my important memories,or I and my boyfriend's memories. Did you catch my favorite places? If you know new places now, please visit there, except my room!

Essay 1-03a: Mrs. Doubtfire

I watched movie: Mrs. Doubtfire. I rented it from TSUTAYA. I tell you this story. My interest in this movie is about “father love children”.

Daniel is this story’s main character. He is very funny and cheerful man. He has a family, his wife, two girl and one boy. He loves his children very much. He worked as voice actor, but he quit because he and director’s idea was not much. He had repeated like this, so he doesn't have job anytime and he played with his children. His wife’s Miranda is not like this husband, so she is always irritated.

On his son’s 14th birthday, while wife is in company, he invited many children, brought petting zoo and made big sounds. Miranda received call about the ado and she was very angry. She went back home quickly, stop the party and she told Daniel that she want to divorce. The Courts doesn't allow Daniel parent’s right because he doesn’t have job and house for children live. He only allowed meeting his children every Saturday. He couldn't get it, because his children are his all. He loves them and children love him too.

He thought that how to meet his children. One Saturday, when he had dinner with children, Miranda came for them, she show Daniel an advertisement for home helper. He inspired the plan, so that plan is what he will be a home helper, and HER name is ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’. He good at voices, he can spoof woman. He asked Flank special makeup to be women. It succeeded brilliantly, and SHE was greeted by Miranda.

Mrs. Doubtfire did every home thing, serving dinner, bed making, reading books for child and cleaning house. She is very good home helper. One day, a man visits Miranda’s company as a client. He is Stewart, and he is her past boyfriend. Mrs. Doubtfire tried interfered Stewart and Miranda’s relation. And Daniel got new job in television station, as deliver man. His life was smoothly.

Though one day, Mrs. Doubtfire had to go restaurant with the family and Stewart for Miranda’s birthday dinner. The restaurant is Bridge. And Daniel had to dinner his television station’s president, this is one time chance for his success. The restaurant is Bridge too!! That is Friday 7 o’clock too, but he did it. Can you believe it? First he played HER in the family and next he change his clothes and face, he met his president. He alternated the changing. Unfortunately SHE came out HER identity.

He explained his feeling about love for his children in court. He did crazy action which he became Mrs. Doubtfire to meet children everyday, but he has been crazy since when children born. So this action is not special. I think he lover children than Miranda; after all, he didn't any housekeeping, but after he became Mrs. Doubtfire he study hard cooking, sewing and so on. These are all for he keeps an eye on his children. His love is big, I feel.

While I watch this movie, I laughed many time. This is very fun, I felt Daniel’s love as father and I touched. If you haven’t watched this even, I want to see you too!

Essay 1-02a: Enjoy KGU

I introduce your KGU life. I'm belonging to department of Eibei, so I introduce mainly here.

We study mainly English. In junior, you should take Second foreign language, you can choice in this, Spanish, French, German and Russian. I took Spanish and I like this class, but almost student hate it! Maybe it is because the teacher is severe about time. That is to say, if you would be late for the class even a minute, he wouldn't admire what you enter in the room. Be careful! In university, there are a lot of strange teachers like this. This is to be problem sometime, however it is interesting point too, so please think in the latter.

I recommend you KGU's library. I like this place in KGU. KGU's library is big and full. There are many books, Japanese and foreign newspapers, magazines, English books, PCs, and it has some kind of rooms. It is very useful.Every student is looking forward to the lunchtime. At that time, students have lunch in each place. Generally member of circle are in school cafeteria and Gakusei kaikan. Eibei's girls always go bakery. Bakery is surrounded by glass, so there is good atmosphere. Bakery's bread is special! Some people take out to them home. Near by bakery, there is Maruzen which sell stationeries and magazines. I tell you profitable information! In Maruzen, books and magazines are sold on 3% cheaper than usually.

Then, there are many exchange students from overseas. If you want to see them, go to English Lounge which is in build 1, and if you come to Freshman Camp and English Weekend, you can communicate with them long time. I think you should better join these camps. It is very fun event and you will make a lot of friends of Eibei.

In autumn, KGU held "Takuma festival". It is the biggest event in KGU. It is held for three days, and each circle open shop. Every year, famous person comes to this event! Last year, Brother Tom and Shota Shimizu came. There are not only shops but also many exhibitions. Please enjoy it!

Eibei is said that Eibei students are more closely than other department students, so you are lucky!I hope what you spend full university life!
